Default 256 Color (High Resolution) vs Legacy (16 Colors)

With the update to Level 3 radar data, 16 color (solid color) color tables are now obsolete when looking at current data. For that reason, the reflectivity color tables are now being sorted into 256 color tables, and legacy 16 color tables. Legacy tables will still be available if you want to look at archived data, but will be in a separate section from the 256 color tables. Keep this in mind when searching for or uploading new tables.

High-Res Reflectivity: http://www.grlevelxstuff.com/index.p...3_sectionid=80

High-Res Reflectivity Winter: http://www.grlevelxstuff.com/index.p...3_sectionid=78

Legacy Reflectivity: http://www.grlevelxstuff.com/index.p...3_sectionid=81

Also, if you happen to notice a table that is in the wrong section, please let me know so I can fix it! Sorting over 200 tables, I'm bound to put one in the wrong spot.

Thanks and enjoy the high-res Level 3!

David

Just an FYI for those who like creating color tables. To take full advantage of the new high-res Level 3, and super-res Level 2, color tables should start at -30dBZ and go to 95dBZ in order to see the full range presented. This is not to say that you can't start at a higher dBZ level for filtering reasons, but it is to your advantage to be able to see the whole range

Default New Color Tables

As soon as I saw the new color tables, I downloaded a few. Updated all my color tables. Are the new 256 color data streams active now? or is that still coming from NOAA?

The updated Level 3 data is flowing from the Western, Central, and Southern regions right now. All you have to do is have the updated version of GR3. The Eastern region is expected to come online later this week.

Awesome. I wasn't sure if it was just the south that was behind or if the south was going to be the first with the update. Thanks

The South is already online, with the exception of a few sites that haven't been upgraded yet. Its the East that is last with this one.

Well, depends. Most of the time just means the data is late. If it is red, then you can bet its down. Find that status update text and it will tell you if there's a problem.

100% on target. -30dBZ to 95dBZ is what you should be making. And solidcolor tables are not a great idea anymore.

Personal preference. Find one you like and stick with it. Or build one. That's what I did.

Does anyone know yet if Mike is ever going to consider adding in color4 transparency functionality to the GR3 code?

That way I could be able to use the same color table for both GR3 and GR2AE.
