GR2AE Version 1.60 Released!
By Aaron (Updated by RRRick8)
Published: June 29, 2008
Updated: June 30, 2008

Per Mike G.

1) Improved smoothing on super resolution radar data and long range legacy resolution data. You can select from three smoothing types in the View->Smoothing Settings dialog: Bilinear, 4X Adaptive, and 8X Adaptive.

The two new smoothing techniques use moderately complex pixel shaders to overcome the limitations of standard bilinear filtering on poor aspect ratio data. The new techniques are adaptive, which means the filter kernel changes as you go farther out the radial and the bin aspect ratio gets worse. The new filtering works on all radial data, both legacy and superres.

With superres data, the "4X Adaptive" technique starts making a visible difference over standard bilinear smoothing at 30-40nm and maxes out at 70-80nm. It still improves the data past 80nm over bilinear smoothing, but it has reached its maximum capacity.

The "8X Adaptive" technique functions exactly the same as "4X Adaptive" up to 70-80nm but doesn't reach maximum capacity until ~150nm.

You can basically double those distances when looking at legacy resolution data.

The new 4X and 8X shaders are more complex than the standard bilinear shader. However, I didn't notice any performance degradation with either one on my dev machine's ATI 3870 card or on my laptop's Nvidia Go7800. I'm sure that lower end hardware will struggle some with the new shaders.

Edit: the new adaptive smoothing is only available on GR2Analyst. GRLevel2 does not use shaders so there's no way to implement the new smoothing in it.

GR2AE Version 1.52 Released
By Aaron
Published: June 27, 2008
Updated: June 27, 2008

Quote From Mike Gibson "I've uploaded GR2Analyst 1.52. It has the following changes"

1) Improved elimination of redundant tilts in superres and VCP 121. I think this will completely fix the problem.

2) Improved performance on base products when creating derived products (eg. SRV, NROT, Volume Explorer).

3) Fixed error 1203 path to toss the user to the Reminder dialog.

Updated: April 29, 2008

Per GRLevelX.com

I've uploaded GRLevel3 1.43. It contains one change:

1) Changed the test file upload in Web Publishing to "gr3test.jpg" from "test.ftp". Apparently, some hosts are preventing the upload of a file with a ".ftp" extension.
